10 December 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), a document adopted in 1948 that set out the fundamental human rights to be universally protected. It has since been translated into more than 500 languages and served as the basis for innumerable policies and actions worldwide.

To commemorate its anniversary and foster renewed attention to its importance, cities across the globe are holding candlelight concerts throughout the month of December.

Supported by Gemeente Maastricht, UNU-MERIT is hosting a candlelight concert in the historic Sint Janskerk in the center of the city on the evening of Thursday 14 December. Following words from the Vice-Mayor and UNU-MERIT Director, the musical duo Triana y Luca will share a concert of music connected with the spirit of the commemoration.

This event is free and open to the public.
